An alarming issue is impacting certain Android devices, as users are noticing a rapid drain on their phone batteries even when the devices are not actively in use. This unexpected problem seems to have emerged following a recent software update rollout. Observant individuals at 9to5Google have highlighted that Android users are expressing their concerns on various forums, citing instances where they now have to charge their phones multiple times daily just to maintain battery life.
So, which users are experiencing this issue, and what steps are being taken next?
It appears that Google’s Pixel phone series is among those affected by this battery problem, with the technology giant from the US acknowledging the issue and actively working on a solution.
The impacted devices include the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 7A.
9to5Google has indicated that the problem is likely related to CPU wakeups, causing the phone to continuously operate in the background even when it is not in active use.
This issue is creating significant inconvenience for users. For instance, one individual named Phil shared, “Pixel 7A – both my phone and my wife’s have had this issue since mid-March. Phones suddenly go from 20% to 0, are slow to charge and batteries drain while switched off.”
Another Pixel owner, Fz, added, “My Pixel 9 Pro XL battery drain started after the March update. Now I need to charge my phone 3x daily after the March update. My phone battery is depleted when I do not use my phone overnight. I charged my phone battery full before I sleep and I woke up my battery phone only left 30%. It’s really annoying.”
However, not all Pixel users are encountering this issue, as highlighted by a user named Warren who stated, “Pixel 9 Pro, and no apparent battery drain here. At 6:30 am, it was fully charged. At 3:20 this afternoon, as I post this, it’s at 79%.”
Google is expected to address this matter promptly and release an update. We will provide further updates on this situation as soon as more information becomes available.
