Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, commenced operations on July 27 after facing several weeks of delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge during its first five days of service. In the same timeframe, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada by crossing the bridge.
In comparison, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, other key border crossings in the area, recorded a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents during the same period. Additionally, StatCan noted that 4,100 commercial transport trucks made their way into Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
