“Gwich’in Tribal Council Delays Annual Assembly for Financial Document Finalization”

The Gwich’in Tribal Council has decided to delay its upcoming annual general assembly due to the need for additional time to finalize financial documents, as announced in a press release on Thursday. Originally planned to commence next Wednesday in Fort McPherson, the council is still in the process of determining new dates and providing information on how individuals can participate, with a commitment to share these details promptly.

According to the release, the postponement was a thoughtful choice given the significant matters typically addressed during the annual general assembly. This decision aligns with past experiences, as last year’s assembly saw challenges related to financial matters. At that time, the council had indicated that it would not be able to present audited financial statements, a customary aspect of such gatherings. Delays in receiving financial data from the Gwich’in Development Corporation (GDC), a subsidiary of the tribal council, were cited as the primary reason for this situation, with references made to difficulties within the GDC impeding the completion of its audited statements.
