The popular series “Heated Rivalry” is adding more star power to its cast for the upcoming season. The Canadian-produced hockey drama, which gained international acclaim in its first season, has announced the addition of three new cast members.
Among the newcomers are Milla Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” franchise and “The Fifth Element.” Kevin Zegers, hailing from Woodstock, Ont., has appeared in various TV series and films like “Gossip Girl” and “Transamerica.” Additionally, Paul Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film and television, will join the cast following his work in productions like “Due South” and “Men With Brooms.”
The series, inspired by Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” books, centers on the clandestine romance between two rival hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Gross is set to portray hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, while Zegers will play Coach Wiebe, the head of the Ottawa Centaurs team. Jovovich will take on the role of Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist who supports Rozanov.
The cast for the new season also includes Canadian talents like Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka. Hampshire, a star of “Schitt’s Creek,” expressed excitement about reuniting with series creator and director Jacob Tierney, highlighting the show’s growing popularity akin to “Schitt’s Creek.”
Despite missing eligibility for the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards, “Heated Rivalry” captivated audiences and received recognition at the Canadian Screen Awards, winning accolades for best drama and lead performer. The second season, currently in production, is scheduled to premiere on Crave in Spring 2027.
