Iconic Actor and Filmmaker Robert Redford Dies at 89

Actor and filmmaker Robert Redford has passed away at the age of 89, causing a global shock. Known for his roles in iconic films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President’s Men, and Out of Africa, Redford died at his residence in Utah, with no disclosed cause of death.

Apart from his acting career, Redford was also recognized for his work as a director, producer, and environmental advocate. He retired from acting in 2018. Throughout his life, Redford had romantic relationships with various women and notably had a publicized disagreement with Barbra Streisand.

Redford was married twice during his lifetime. His first marriage was to Lola Van Wagenen in 1958, with whom he had four children but tragically lost their first son, Scott Anthony, to sudden infant death syndrome. After divorcing in 1985, Redford had relationships with Sonia Braga, Lena Olin, and Kathy O’Rear before marrying Sibylle Szaggars in 2009.

Despite his illustrious film career, Szaggars admitted to never watching any of Redford’s movies until years into their relationship. Their bond was based on a genuine connection beyond fame and success. Redford and Szaggars did not have children together.

Although Redford and Streisand never dated, they encountered a strained working relationship during the filming of The Way We Were in 1973. Director Sydney Pollack mentioned Redford’s concerns about Streisand’s dominant presence on set. Despite initial tensions, the film was a success, and the two remained friends for years to come.
