Driver Jody Jamieson, alongside his horse Fifth and Five, emerged victorious in the 67th Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday night. Jamieson expressed his disbelief and joy at the win, describing it as a dream come true. Despite having triumphed in races with larger prize money, he emphasized the prestige of winning such a significant event.
The Gold Cup and Saucer race, with a prize purse of $100,000, attracts participants from all over North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually. Jamieson, who has been a fan of the race since childhood, recalled his father’s victory in 2006 with Banner Yankee, a longshot at 11-to-1 odds. However, his latest win with Fifth and Five now holds a special place in his heart.
During the race, Jamieson strategically followed the horse and driver in the first post position, sticking to his initial plan despite the unpredictability of horse racing strategies. Fifth and Five clinched victory with a time of 1:49.4, with Jamieson praising the horse’s suitability for the track and its impeccable performance.
Following the race, Jamieson and his team celebrated in the winners’ circle, with Jamieson expressing his overwhelming emotions and stating that the win was truly a dream come true, promising to savor the moment for as long as possible.
