John Tory, the ex-mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new head of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.
Commencing on October 1, Tory’s term was confirmed in a recent press release. The festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20 this year. He takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021 and commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his lasting pride in contributing to the festival’s evolution.
TIFF also disclosed the addition of three new members to its board of directors – Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch EchevarrÃa. Simultaneously, it bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, expressing gratitude for her dedication and valuable contributions.
