Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada exited the U.S. Open on Wednesday after losing his second-round match in four sets to Karen Khachanov of Russia. Despite winning the first set in a tiebreak, Auger-Aliassime struggled in the following sets, losing 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
Khachanov, ranked 50th globally, managed to secure the win by breaking Auger-Aliassime’s serve seven times and saving seven out of nine break points he faced. This victory marked Khachanov’s second top-10 win at a Grand Slam tournament.
Auger-Aliassime initially took a lead in the first set but was eventually overtaken by Khachanov’s resilience. Khachanov dominated the following sets, breaking at love in the third set and securing a commanding lead in the fourth set, ultimately winning the match with a strong serve that Auger-Aliassime couldn’t return.
Khachanov will face either Benjamin Bonzi from France or Ignacio Buse from Peru in the next round. In other U.S. Open matches, Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, and Alexander Zverev advanced, while some top-seeded players, including Alex de Minaur, were eliminated in the early rounds.
