“Manhattan S4-R Challenges Sky Q with Free Channels”

Sky Q, a popular TV device in the UK for over a decade, continues to be a favorite choice for households with its ability to store content on its internal hard drive. However, a new competitor has emerged in the form of Manhattan’s S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder. This device operates similarly to Sky Q, utilizing a satellite dish to deliver programming and offering recording capabilities. What sets it apart is the absence of subscription fees, providing access to over 100 free TV and radio channels.

The Manhattan S4-R boasts features such as a 500GB hard drive, allowing for approximately 300 hours of content storage. Larger 1TB and 2TB versions are in the pipeline for users needing more space. The device also supports functions like pausing and rewinding live TV, mirroring Sky’s offerings.

With an intuitive interface and access to a range of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer and ITVX, Manhattan aims to deliver a seamless viewing experience. Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, highlighted the enhanced recording capabilities of the S4-R, enabling up to four simultaneous recordings, double the previous limit.

Positioned as a flexible and cost-effective alternative to subscription TV services, the Manhattan S4-R is set to hit the market this month through retailers like Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds. Pricing starts at £219.99 for the 500GB model, with the 1TB version slated for May release at £249.99, and the 2TB model launching in June at £279.99.
