“Nigel Farage Under Fire Over Clacton Home Purchase”

Nigel Farage faces renewed scrutiny regarding the purchase of his £885,000 Clacton home, with calls for him to provide clarifications on the matter. Recent revelations suggest that Farage’s girlfriend, Laure Ferrari, acquired the property, contradicting Farage’s previous statement that he had bought the house.

Ferrari, who previously worked as a waitress in Strasbourg to make ends meet, met Farage while working in a restaurant and later landed a job in his European Parliament office. Reports indicate that Ferrari paid standard stamp duty rates when purchasing the property as her primary residence, avoiding the additional 5% tax that Farage would have incurred if he had bought the house himself.

In response to the controversy, Farage admitted to misspeaking about the ownership of the property and denied providing financial assistance to Ferrari for the purchase. However, a BBC investigation revealed no evidence of Ferrari or her family having the financial means to buy the house without a mortgage.

Farage sought tax advice to demonstrate compliance with regulations following criticism from Angela Rayner over stamp duty issues. His legal representatives asserted that there was no improper tax avoidance in the property acquisition.

Political opponents, including the Labour and Liberal Democrats, have criticized Farage for the inconsistencies in his statements and called for transparency regarding the property transaction. Farage’s spokesperson affirmed that Ferrari is the sole owner of the property and reiterated that Farage has no financial interest in it.

In a separate development, Farage faced backlash for failing to disclose a trip to the US for a fundraiser for President Trump. MPs are required to register such visits within a specified timeframe, but Farage had not reported the trip or any associated earnings. Farage’s spokesperson acknowledged the oversight and committed to updating the records promptly.
