In her first appearance for Vancouver, Alex Lamontagne netted two goals as the visiting Rise dominated the front-running Ottawa Rapid with a 5-1 victory in Northern Super League action on Saturday. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, who converted a penalty shot, also found the back of the net for the Rise. The team capitalized with three goals within a 10-minute span early in the second half, securing a comfortable win at TD Place.
Elise Bell managed to score a consolation goal for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, ending Jessica Wulf’s clean sheet hopes. Following this triumph, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, edging past the Halifax Tide by one point. They now boast seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, totaling 22 points. Meanwhile, the Rapid maintain their lead with 33 points, staying three points ahead of the Montreal Roses, despite recording 10 wins, four losses, and three draws.
The Rise enjoyed a slight edge in possession at 53% compared to the Rapid’s 47% and outshot their opponents 17-8, with 11 shots on target versus the Rapid’s 3. Vancouver also secured four corner kicks compared to Ottawa’s three, and both teams received two yellow cards each.
Looking ahead, the Rise will host the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will visit AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
