“Sky & Virgin Media to Drop MTV Channels Tomorrow”

Sky and Virgin Media television customers will see a reduction in available channels starting tomorrow, including popular music networks. The decision to remove several MTV stations was made public in October, and viewers now have only a day left to enjoy these iconic channels. The updated TV schedule confirms that MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live will all cease broadcasting on December 31.

Individuals trying to check upcoming programs on these platforms through the TV guide will encounter a message stating, “This channel is now closed.”

The decline in traditional TV viewership due to the growing popularity of streaming services like YouTube and social media apps such as TikTok seems to be the main reason behind this change. According to sources from The Sun, MTV is suffering from the impact of the streaming trend.

While MTV services in certain regions like Asia, Australia, and Latin America are also reportedly being discontinued, there is a silver lining for MTV fans. Despite the closure of music-focused channels, MTV HD will remain accessible, offering reality shows like Naked Dating UK and Geordie Shore.

MTV has played a significant role in shaping youth culture and kickstarting careers in music and television since its inception in 1981. Beyond the MTV shutdown, four children’s TV channels are also slated for closure. Pop, Tiny Pop, Pop+1, and Tiny Pop+1 will be permanently removed from the lineup by year-end, resulting in a total of nine channels disappearing from Sky and Virgin Media TV.
