Snooker icon Ronnie O’Sullivan has revealed that he is now more cautious in selecting the opportunities he pursues, recognizing that his time at the pinnacle of his career may be limited. This adjustment means fewer exhibition matches for O’Sullivan, as he redirects his attention to competitive tournaments.
At 49 years old, O’Sullivan, a seven-time world champion and the recent 2022 Crucible winner, has opted out of several events in the ongoing 2025/26 season. Despite this, he managed to reach the final of the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters in August, narrowly losing to Neil Robertson.
While exhibition games offer substantial financial rewards for top players, O’Sullivan has decided to prioritize tournament play over them due to the demanding nature of balancing both. He expressed his intentions to focus solely on competitive events rather than splitting his efforts.
Acknowledging that he may be approaching the end of his career, O’Sullivan emphasized the importance of maximizing his remaining time in the sport. With the support of sponsors alleviating financial pressures, he aims to concentrate on his performance and rekindle his passion for the game.
Having relocated to Dubai from the UK to facilitate participation in tournaments across Asia, O’Sullivan highlighted the significance of sponsor backing in sustaining his career. His move away from the UK was a strategic decision following his defeat in the World Snooker Championship semi-finals in May.
Looking ahead, O’Sullivan remains open to potential life changes, including the possibility of returning to the UK. He emphasized the need to prioritize personal growth and future considerations beyond his snooker career.
