“Snow Alerts: Southern UK Braces for 8-Inch Snowfall”

Snowfall is expected in southern areas like Oxfordshire today amidst the ongoing cold weather pattern.

The Met Office has issued various weather warnings, including snow alerts, predicting up to eight inches of snowfall over a two-day period. The icy conditions resulting from this wintry weather will create hazardous driving situations throughout the week, especially on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths.

According to the Met Office website, snow showers could lead to disruptions, with rain and hill snow potentially causing icy patches on subzero surfaces.

Weather maps from Ventusky, utilizing data from Metdesk, indicate the likelihood of snow reaching as far south as Oxfordshire today, although with less intensity compared to Scotland and northern England.

Ventusky’s team forecasts snowfall in parts of the Home Counties, particularly the Chiltern Hills, and expects light snow in areas of Suffolk in the East of England.

The most severe weather conditions are predicted for Scotland today, potentially causing disruptions to transportation and infrastructure. The Met Office warns of rain moving across Scotland, possibly turning into snow, especially in high-altitude regions with accumulations up to 5-10cm above 400m elevation.

Wednesday’s forecast points to harsh weather along the east coast of England, extending to Lincolnshire, with up to 20cm of snow expected in parts of Humberside, North Yorkshire, and Northeast England. Similar snow levels are anticipated in most parts of Scotland on Wednesday.

Other forecasters project snow in places like Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire today. However, the areas mentioned earlier are likely to experience heavier snowfall and are under weather warnings as a precaution.

Chief Forecaster Paul Gundersen from the Met Office cautions about scattered showers in northern Scotland, posing risks of icy conditions on roads and pavements. He also mentions the possibility of rain turning into snow in western Scotland, potentially causing travel disruptions in higher regions.
