An investment group that included various sports stars in the ownership of the Alpine Formula 1 team is reportedly considering selling its share. Otro Capital, part of a consortium that acquired around 24% of the Enstone-based team in 2023, is contemplating offloading its stake.
Notable figures like actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, known for owning Wrexham AFC, along with other celebrity investors, joined in through their firm, Maximum Effort Investments. The group also featured renowned personalities such as golfer Rory McIlroy, boxer Anthony Joshua, footballers Juan Mata and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Despite the star-studded ownership, there are talks within Otro Capital about potentially selling their share in the Alpine team, as reported by Sports Business Journal. The team’s value stood at approximately £685 million at the time of the investment two years ago, reflecting the growing popularity of F1 worldwide and the subsequent rise in team valuations.
In a related context, Red Bull Racing declined a substantial offer for their junior team, Racing Bulls, while Haas turned down multiple lucrative offers this year. If Otro Capital decides to sell, they stand to make a significant profit from their initial £165 million investment in 2023. However, discussions regarding a potential sale are said to be in early stages.
The possibility of Reynolds, McElhenney, or RedBird Capital Partners divesting from the consortium remains uncertain. Alpine’s current performance in the constructors’ championship has been lackluster, with the team trailing at the bottom with only 20 points this season, a third of Sauber’s total points.
Alpine’s decision not to focus on car development this year may have contributed to their current standings, as they plan to concentrate resources on the 2026 season. Additionally, the team will switch to new Mercedes power units next season, aiming to address their underpowered Renault engines.
Details about Alpine’s 2026 driver lineup are pending, with Pierre Gasly confirmed for a contract extension. Speculation surrounds Franco Colapinto’s future following a point-less season so far, with rumors suggesting a potential announcement before the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix.
Sky has introduced discounted rates for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, offering savings and over 1,400 live matches across various leagues. The broadcaster plans to showcase at least 215 live Premier League games next season, a significant increase from previous coverage.
