Which? has identified the top current account providers and encouraged millions of customers to consider switching. The consumer rights organization assessed various aspects such as fees, overdrafts, charges, and benefits in its latest survey. Additionally, they consulted with over 6,600 customers to gauge their satisfaction levels with their existing accounts.
Six providers received the Which? Recommended Provider (WRP) status, including Chase, Danske Bank, First Direct, Monzo, Nationwide, and Starling. Starling emerged at the forefront with an 86% customer score, securing its seventh WRP badge. It received a perfect five-star rating for online and mobile banking and four stars for customer service.
Monzo obtained an 85% customer score, earning five stars for mobile banking convenience and four stars for overall customer service. First Direct achieved an 84% customer score and has been the longest-standing current account WRP, holding the award for over a decade.
Moreover, Nationwide, with an 84% customer score, garnered four stars for in-branch service and five stars for online banking. Chase, a digital bank owned by JPMorgan, achieved an 82% customer score, receiving accolades like five stars for its mobile app and four stars for customer service and ease of application.
Danske Bank achieved an 80% customer score with mostly four-star ratings, particularly for overall customer service and online banking. Despite an 85% customer score, Allied Irish Bank missed the WRP status. Revolut scored 83% but was not named a WRP due to operating as an e-money provider in the UK.
A recent survey by Which? revealed that nearly 37% of current account holders have remained loyal to the same provider for over two decades. TSB ranked lowest with a 67% customer score, receiving two stars in aspects like customer service and telephone banking but securing four stars for online and mobile banking.
Virgin Money, Santander, and Halifax closely followed TSB with a 71% customer score. Sam Richardson, Deputy Editor of Which? Money, emphasized the importance of considering different banks for perks like fee-free spending abroad and switching bonuses. He encouraged customers to switch to a Which? Recommended Provider for better benefits and a hassle-free transfer process.
Representatives from TSB, Virgin Money, Santander, and Halifax provided statements highlighting their commitment to customer service and continuous improvement efforts. The Mirror reached out to Santander and Halifax for further comments.
