The National Television Awards, also known as the NTAs, are a significant event in the UK television industry. However, the popular show Strictly Come Dancing will not have any of its stars attending the ceremony tonight. This decision comes after a recent incident involving one of this year’s contestants, Thomas Skinner, who caused a stir by walking out of a press event the day before the awards.
Skinner’s abrupt departure from Strictly’s press launch garnered attention as he was seen grabbing a reporter’s phone and exiting interviews due to being recorded without consent. Despite the controversy surrounding Skinner, the BBC has decided to keep him on the show, dispelling speculations of his potential removal or resignation.
While the absence of Strictly stars at the NTAs is not directly related to Skinner’s actions, it is due to scheduling conflicts with the show’s filming of the launch episode on the same day. The NTAs will go on without the presence of key Strictly personalities.
Hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, along with judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood, and Motsi Mabuse, the pre-recorded episode will introduce the 15 new celebrity contestants and reveal their pairings. Notably, Shirley Ballas hinted at subtle changes in this season’s competition during her appearance on The One Show.
Despite the Strictly stars’ absence, the NTAs will feature nominations for the show in various categories, including Best Talent Show. Additionally, Claudia Winkleman has received a nomination for Best Presenter for her role in The Traitors. Dancer Amy Dowden has also been recognized for her documentary, Cancer and Me, focusing on her battle with breast cancer.
The clash in schedules will prevent the Strictly crew from attending the NTAs, where comedian Joel Dommett will host the event. Nevertheless, the show’s continued success is evident with multiple nominations and a strong presence in the TV industry.
