The main suspect linked to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been relocated to temporary housing following his release from prison. Christian Brueckner, a convicted rapist who denies any involvement, officially declared himself homeless in a German town. The town’s spokesperson stated that they provided accommodation for him for safety reasons after he registered as homeless. Brueckner was seen leaving Sehnde prison near Hanover after serving a seven-year sentence for raping a pensioner.
Photographs captured Brueckner heading towards a McDonald’s, located next to a Baby One store selling baby and toddler clothing. He was accompanied by his lawyer, Friedrich Fuelscher, whose office is situated in Kiel. Brueckner was identified as the prime suspect by German prosecutors in June 2020 but has not been formally charged despite claims of evidence linking him to Madeleine’s abduction and presumed death.
As part of his release conditions, Brueckner is required to wear an ankle monitor for five years and could face imprisonment if he violates any terms, such as changing residences without notifying probation officials. He is scheduled to appear in court next month in Oldenburg on charges of insulting a prison officer, potentially resulting in a fine.
Although an extensive police inquiry has been conducted, there has been no progress in charging Brueckner in connection to Madeleine’s case. In October last year, he was acquitted of several sexual offenses alleged in Portugal, pending an appeal decision by Germany’s Federal Court of Justice.
Brueckner had been living in a rundown farmhouse near Praia da Luz when Madeleine disappeared from the Ocean Club resort while her parents were dining nearby. Brueckner maintains his innocence regarding any involvement in the incident.
