Tesco is set to distribute hundreds of complimentary Christmas trees for a single day only. These “wonky” Christmas trees, typically not sold due to imperfections like uneven branches or slight tilting, will be available at select Tesco stores on Saturday, December 6. While encouraging recipients to donate to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell, Tesco aims to spread holiday cheer with this initiative.
The free trees will be offered at specific locations including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra starting at 10am on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one tree per household. In comparison, similar Christmas trees elsewhere are priced at £13.99 at Aldi and £14.99 at Home Bargains.
Tesco’s UK CEO, Ashwin Prasad, emphasized embracing the imperfect charm of these trees, highlighting that imperfections can enhance the Christmas spirit. A recent Tesco survey revealed that a significant percentage of Brits prioritize putting up their Christmas trees during the second weekend of December, with the majority agreeing that imperfections add to the holiday’s essence.
Moreover, Tesco announced a promotion for Clubcard members, offering double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December, applicable to all third-party gift card purchases in Tesco stores. With approximately 24 million Clubcard members, Tesco’s loyalty program provides points for various purchases, including groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile, and Tesco credit card transactions, each contributing towards earning Clubcard vouchers for future Tesco spending.
