“Trump Appoints Clayton to Lead Super Intelligence Force”

President Trump announced on Sunday that he has appointed Jay Clayton, the current director of national intelligence, to oversee the government’s efforts in maintaining U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence (AI). Clayton will lead the newly formed “Super Intelligence Force” (SIF) and engage with various stakeholders such as consumers, religious groups, and AI companies.

In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump emphasized that SIF’s primary goal is to ensure America remains at the forefront of superintelligence and to safeguard the interests and well-being of all Americans. This move comes after a report in The Wall Street Journal revealed Clayton’s appointment to spearhead the administration’s initiatives to keep the U.S. ahead in AI development.

Clayton expressed the critical importance of being a leader in AI, stating that the risks of falling behind are substantial. He outlined that the task force under his leadership has a 120-day deadline to assess the risks and benefits of AI and recommend the federal government’s role in this rapidly evolving technology landscape.

Regarding AI safety concerns, recent weeks have seen a growing focus on the potential risks associated with AI advancements. Some researchers have raised alarms about the technology’s potential to pose threats to humanity in the near future. While calls for increased regulation have emerged from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers, Trump has taken a cautious stance on the issue, fearing that excessive oversight could hinder competitiveness with China.

Clayton’s panel will evaluate existing government mechanisms for addressing AI-related risks, breaches, and cyber incidents and propose strategies to enhance federal response capabilities within the current regulatory framework. This marks the second time Trump has appointed an advisor to oversee AI-related decisions across the government, with Jay Clayton succeeding venture capitalist David Sacks in this role. The task force will also include key leaders such as Andrew Ferguson, Emil Michael, and Scott Kupor and will report directly to the President and the White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles.
