UK Braces for Snow and Ice as Freezing Temperatures Plunge

Britons should prepare for extremely cold weather tonight as snow showers are expected, leading to icy conditions that could disrupt travel throughout the UK.

Temperatures are projected to drop even further, possibly reaching -12C in rural areas of Scotland, according to the Met Office.

Chief Forecaster Steve Willington stated, “The cold Arctic air mass is still prevailing today and into Friday, bringing more wintry showers and overnight ice.”

Willington added that as temperatures decrease overnight, untreated surfaces will freeze, potentially causing travel disruptions tonight and into Friday morning.

Several snow and ice weather warnings are in effect, including:

– Grampian: Ice until 11 am on Friday
– Highlands and Eilean Siar: Ice until 11 am on Friday
– Orkney and Shetland: Ice until 11 am on Friday
