“UK Braces for Snow as Weather System Approaches”

Snow is expected to make a comeback in the UK in the next 24 hours, according to advanced weather predictions. The GFS model forecasts indicate that snowfall may commence in Scotland and northern England around 6pm on Friday as a weather system moves in from the Atlantic, bringing heavy rain to Northern Ireland, Wales, and the rest of England.

By 9pm, the maps suggest significant snowfall in the Lake District, the Pennines, southern Scotland, and parts of the Highlands, while the heaviest rainfall is predicted along the east coast of England during that time.

Maps around midnight show that snow is likely to persist in Scotland, with Glasgow potentially experiencing snow showers. Areas to the south of Edinburgh could also see some snow accumulation.

Snow coverage maps indicate that snowflakes could settle as far south as the Peak District during this wintry weather event. Towns on the east coast, like Redcar, may also be affected by snow, as per the maps.

The Met Office has mentioned that snow is more probable later in the month. Their forecast from December 19 to January 2 anticipates changeable weather with spells of rain, showers, and some strong winds, particularly in the west and northwest. Hill snow is a possibility, mainly in the north, with the likelihood of dry weather due to potential spells of high pressure.

Additionally, a yellow weather warning for fog will be in effect tomorrow, affecting East Sussex, Kent, Surrey, and West Sussex. Freezing fog is expected to develop in southeast England on Thursday night, with visibility potentially dropping below 100 meters in some areas and the possibility of icy patches on untreated surfaces after Thursday’s rainfall.
