A significant road in Coventry was closed off today (September 13) due to the discovery of an unexploded bomb in the Radford area.
Authorities responded to a call reporting a hand grenade found in a garden on Beake Avenue, leading to the closure of the road near Chesholme Road.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) was called around 11:15 am to inspect the device. Coventry Police later confirmed that the device was empty, ensuring there was no safety risk, as reported by Coventry Live.
Following the clearance, Beake Avenue has been reopened, and traffic is now moving smoothly, according to West Midlands Roads.
A spokesperson from Coventry Police mentioned, “We received reports of a suspected hand grenade in a garden on Beake Avenue, Coventry, today. The Army EOD team attended and confirmed the device was empty and posed no threat. The cordon has been lifted.”
WM Roads shared an update stating, “Earlier disruptions have been resolved, and traffic is back to normal in the area.”
