“Vernon Kay Defends Clubbing at 51: ‘Age Shouldn’t Limit Joy'”

Broadcaster Vernon Kay has responded to critics who suggest he is too old to be frequenting clubs in his 50s. The BBC Radio 2 favorite, aged 51, has been DJing at nightlife venues for two decades and has addressed the pushback from those who believe he should retire from the scene.

“I believe that at 50, it’s important to continue enjoying the things that brought you joy in your youth,” Vernon expressed. “It irks me when people question my presence in clubs at my age. I do go because that’s where people of all ages come together.”

Emphasizing his dedication to his passion, Vernon explained to The Sun’s TV magazine, “Nightclubs are not just for the young; you witness a diverse crowd enjoying good music. Criticism about my age and club-going habits is unfounded.”

Married to Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, Vernon highlighted the hard work of his daughters, Phoebe, 20, and Amber, 16, stating that their achievements are based on merit rather than their celebrity lineage.

In response to colleague Jeremy Vine’s comments on youth chores, Vernon jokingly retaliated, “Don’t provoke me, Jeremy. You won’t like the outcome.” He stressed the importance of household responsibilities, citing them as character-building tasks that should not be overlooked.

Further making headlines, Vernon recently joked about being “fired” for a playful exchange with Radio 2 in the Park co-host Michelle Visage at Chelmsford’s Hylands Park event. The banter between Vernon and Michelle drew laughter, adding a light-hearted touch to their hosting duties.
