Forecasters are cautioning that following a turbulent October, the upcoming month may usher in more rainy and blustery weather across the nation. The Met Office has issued warnings for this weekend, anticipating unsettled conditions with strong winds and rain showers, especially affecting western regions. Although some areas might experience brief periods of dry weather, many are likely to encounter heavy, gusty showers. Coastal areas are at risk of gales on Saturday, with Sunday expected to bring a mix of sunshine, showers, and increasing cloud cover leading to evening rain from the Atlantic.
The weather is projected to remain breezy, potentially escalating to coastal gales later in the day, while temperatures are forecasted to hover around seasonal averages. Coral, a leading bookmaker, has slashed the odds to 2-1 (from 4-1) for November becoming the wettest on record in the UK. Additionally, they set odds at 6-4 for mainland UK wind speeds reaching up to 100mph over the weekend.
Coral’s John Hill remarked, “It looks set to be a wet start to the new month, and with some heavy downpours forecast to fall, we have slashed the odds in half on it ending as a record-wet November.” The Met Office’s extended forecast from November 5 to November 5 suggests a continuation of changeable and unsettled weather dominated by low pressure, resulting in showers or longer spells of rain across the country. Western regions are expected to experience the heaviest rainfall, with potential for strong winds and gales, although drier spells may occur more frequently in eastern areas.
Looking ahead, the latter part of November may witness a decrease in unsettled conditions, with a possibility of high-pressure systems bringing drier weather interspersed with chances of fog and frost at night. While rain, showers, and strong winds could persist, especially in the west, temperature trends are expected to remain near or above average, with occasional colder spells if prolonged settled conditions materialize. The period leading up to the weekend is anticipated to remain unsettled, characterized by a mix of showers, clear spells, and heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. Saturday may start with heavy rain in the north before clearing northeastwards, giving way to sunshine and blustery showers, particularly in the southwest.
The weekend is likely to conclude on an unsettled note, with showers decreasing on Sunday but picking up again on Monday.
