On the evening of New Year’s Eve, millions of people are gearing up to send numerous messages to their loved ones to usher in the year 2026. It is a bustling time for messaging platforms, and WhatsApp has confirmed that December 31 is consistently its busiest night of the year.
WhatsApp stated, “New Year’s is our peak day, setting new records each year for messaging and calling among friends and family.”
Despite handling over 100 billion messages and 2 billion calls on an average day, WhatsApp experiences its highest activity during the 24 hours when the global community embraces a New Year.
To enhance the messaging experience for users during the festive season, WhatsApp has introduced several new features. The latest update includes a 2026 sticker pack, video call effects like fireworks and confetti animations, animated confetti reactions, and animated stickers for Status updates.
Additionally, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is offering helpful tips for users engaging with the app on New Year’s Eve. These tips include creating events, using polls for decision-making, sharing live locations for easy navigation, and sending video and voice notes to capture special moments.
By incorporating these upgrades and providing practical advice, WhatsApp aims to facilitate smooth communication and coordination for users celebrating the New Year.
