Freezing fog is expected to affect parts of the country as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning.
The weather alert will be active from midnight until 9 am tomorrow in East Sussex, Kent, Surrey, and West Sussex. Residents in these regions should anticipate potential disruptions to public transportation and the likelihood of flight cancellations, according to the Met Office.
The Met Office stated: “Freezing fog is forecasted to form in parts of southeast England on Thursday night, dissipating by Friday morning. Visibility may drop below 100 meters in some areas.”
For those in the affected areas, it is recommended to verify road conditions before driving, allow extra time for journeys, or adjust plans if needed.
The Met Office advised: “Ensure you are familiar with operating your fog lights and verify their functionality before commencing your trip.”
Travelers with upcoming flights are urged to stay updated with communications from their airline and monitor the website and social media channels for any developments.
Experts at the Met Office suggest preparing hand luggage with potential delays in mind, mentioning: “For example, some travelers may need to pack extra prescription medication or baby supplies.”
The latest Met Office forecast indicates the UK will experience unsettled weather over the weekend and into the following week. Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert remarked: “Following a cold start with possible icy patches and fog in southeast England, wind and rain are expected to sweep across the UK on Friday. The evening rush hour may be challenging, so plan for additional travel time if you will be on the roads.”
Saturday will see showery conditions in many areas with continued windy weather. On Sunday, a band of rain is projected to move northeastward across the country. Weather warnings are likely early next week, with regions preparing for potentially heavy rain and strong winds on Monday night.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates commented: “A significant area of low pressure is anticipated to approach the UK from the southwest later on Monday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. While specifics on the most affected areas are still uncertain, there is a possibility of disruptive weather conditions.”
