“Tiger Woods undergoes seventh back surgery, delays golf comeback”

Tiger Woods’ hopes of returning to the golf course suffered a setback as the legendary 15-time major champion revealed he underwent another surgical procedure. Following a serious car crash in 2021, Woods has participated in only 11 golf events. Once ranked world No. 1 for a remarkable 281 consecutive weeks, Woods has now dropped to the 2001st spot due to his extended absence from competitive play.

The 49-year-old golfer, who last competed in 2024 at the Open where he failed to make the cut, recently underwent a seventh surgery on his back, forcing him to withdraw from the upcoming Genesis Invitational following his mother’s passing. Woods shared in a statement that due to back pain and limited mobility, he opted for a disc replacement surgery at the L4/5 level, which was performed successfully by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi and his team at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

This latest surgery is expected to sideline Woods for at least a year, potentially delaying any return to professional golf. Despite showing promise in his recovery earlier this year, a ruptured Achilles tendon and multiple surgeries have hindered Woods’ comeback efforts. Since sustaining severe injuries in the 2021 car crash, Woods has faced a series of medical challenges, questioning his ability to return to top form.

While Woods’ future in professional golf remains uncertain, he has been seen supporting his 16-year-old son, Charlie, who is following in his father’s footsteps by competing in junior championships. Although Woods participated in the 2024 PNC Championship alongside his son, his recent surgery and ongoing struggles with injuries cast doubt on his return to competitive golf.
