“UK Braces for Heavy Snowfall, Up to 34cm Expected”

Anticipated snowfall is expected from the southern coast of England to the northern parts of Scotland, with potential accumulations of up to 34cm (13 inches) in some areas.

According to the GFS weather model, snow is projected to begin in Scotland on December 10 before moving southward to reach England, Wales, and Northern Ireland the following day.

By 9am, snow is forecasted to cover a considerable portion of Wales, as well as central and north-west England, potentially affecting cities like Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester, and Blackpool.

The snowfall is expected to progress southward, with light flurries reaching Bristol and possibly even London by midday on December 11. Meanwhile, heavy snow is predicted to persist in Scotland, particularly in the Highlands, with Glasgow and Edinburgh also bracing for wintry conditions.

On December 12, a secondary weather front is set to sweep in from the Atlantic, bringing snow and heavy rain to southern England, with Devon likely to experience significant snowfall by 3pm.

This weather system is predicted to move eastward along the south coast, affecting coastal towns like Bournemouth, Southampton, and Brighton, while South London might also see some snowfall according to the forecast maps.

Snow depth projections for December 13 suggest varying accumulation levels, with southern England likely to see around 1cm of snow, while Scotland could experience accumulations of up to 34cm in certain regions.

The Met Office has also indicated the possibility of snow in the coming month. The forecast for December 2 to 11 anticipates changeable and unsettled conditions across the UK, with showers, rain, and potential snowfall, particularly in northern highland areas.

Looking ahead to December 12 to 26, continued unsettled weather is expected, with wet and windy conditions likely, especially in the northwest, while some drier periods could occur in the southeast, with temperatures generally above average.
