A murder suspect has been formally accused seven months following the discovery of a mother’s body in the Brisbane River.
Crystal Beale, a resident of Brisbane, Australia, was found deceased in the Brisbane River in Yeronga at 5:40 am on February 22 by a member of the public.
Prior to the tragic incident, Crystal was dining with her ex-partner and son in southern Brisbane. The trio parted ways around 9:30 pm when Crystal disembarked a vehicle in Brisbane’s West End.
Surveillance footage captured Crystal, aged 49, at a restaurant wearing beige sandals and a white dress, believed to be the last sighting of her before her demise.
After an extensive seven-month investigation, authorities from Dutton Park Criminal Investigations Branch and the Homicide Investigation Unit have pressed charges against a man in connection with the alleged murder of the 49-year-old woman.
Authorities launched “Operation Xray Saba” to reconstruct the events leading up to Crystal’s death and gather crucial information about her life.
According to a police statement, Crystal left a family gathering at a restaurant in Sunnybank around 8:30 pm on February 21 with a 49-year-old man from West End, whom she was acquainted with. Her last known sighting was when she exited the man’s vehicle at 9:30 pm on Ryan Street, West End.
Detectives, after analyzing over a thousand hours of CCTV footage and seeking public assistance, assert that the man from West End murdered Crystal and disposed of her body in the Brisbane River. Following a meticulous investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at an address in Maudsland where the suspect was apprehended and charged with murder and misconduct with a corpse.
Detective Inspector Wayne Francis emphasized the profound impact such crimes have on families and communities, expressing determination to seek justice for Crystal through exhaustive investigative efforts. The suspect is set to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court.
