Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian striker, who previously played for Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, will join Brighton on a season-long loan deal. There is an agreement in place that includes an obligation to purchase David for a reported fee of $29.7 million US upon meeting specific criteria.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be playing in the Premier League starting from the next season, setting a record transfer fee for the Belgian club. David’s move to Brighton follows a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 appearances and contributed to the team’s first league title win in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029.
The 25-year-old forward represented Canada at the recent World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 matches for the national team, David showcased his talent on the international stage. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, he initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 squad before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025.
Prior to joining Brighton, David embarked on a diverse professional career, featuring spells in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before his move to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring abilities, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the team. David’s arrival coincides with Brighton’s ambition to continue their strong performance in the Premier League following an eighth-place finish last season.
