Atlético Madrid has secured the services of Jonathan David, a Canadian striker, on a loan deal from Juventus in Italy for the upcoming season, as confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday. The 26-year-old, hailing from Ottawa, had an impressive record last season with Juventus, featuring in 46 matches and scoring eight goals. He has also made an appearance in the current campaign.
David will be vying for playing time in Madrid alongside Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth, who have been sidelined due to a muscle injury at the start of the season. Prior to his move to Juventus in 2025, he showcased his talent at Lille in France, scoring 109 goals in 232 games and winning Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup.
As Canada’s leading men’s scorer with 42 goals, David will also be linking up with his hometown team, Atlético Ottawa, in the Canadian Premier League. Atlético Madrid’s upcoming matches include a fixture against Athletic Club on Saturday and a Champions League clash against Liverpool on September 9.
