“Thunder Bay Weekend Packed with Fairs and Festivals”

Residents in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and the nearby area can anticipate a weekend packed with various events like fairs, festivals, and fundraisers. From August 15 to 16, there are several options available for those looking to engage with the community, including the Murillo Fair, Westfort Street Fair, Pawchella, Festival of India, and the Summer Matsuri.

The Oliver Agricultural Society is set to host its annual Murillo Fair at the Murillo Fairgrounds in Oliver Paipoonge, Ontario, running from Friday to Sunday with different timings each day. The traditional agricultural festival will feature livestock competitions, homecraft exhibits, midway rides, and lawn mower races. Admission prices vary, with general admission at $10, youth and senior admission at $5, and free entry for children under five years old.

The Westfort Street Fair will make a return on Saturday, offering a showcase of local vendors, new businesses, artists, musicians, beer gardens, street food, and food contests on Frederica Street East. This free fair celebrates the local business community of Westfort.

A new dog-friendly festival fundraiser called Pawchella will take place at Kamview Nordic Centre on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., raising funds for appendix cancer care and research through the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s Northern Cancer Fund. The event, honoring Hannah Deley, will feature local vendors, agility demonstrations, dog walks, and more.

The Festival of India and Festival of Colours, postponed previously due to wildfires, will return to Marina Park on Saturday and Sunday. Residents can partake in various activities, including a chariot parade and cultural performances. Additionally, the Summer Matsuri will showcase Japanese Canadian culture, food, and arts at the West Thunder Community Centre on Saturday.

To top it off, Brother John will perform live at the Sundays in the Park Concert at Chippewa Park from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with organizers recommending attendees bring lawn chairs for the event.
