A British individual moved to Dubai due to discontent with the gloomy weather and increasing crime rates in the UK, echoing the decision of reality TV personality Luisa Zissman. Luisa, 38, recently announced her relocation to Dubai with two of her children and five horses, citing frustration with the wet weather in Britain.
Elbi Henshaw, aged 23, also made the move to Dubai in January for similar reasons after being captivated by the city during a vacation. Originally from Barnet, North London, Elbi, a personal trainer, expressed how the weather in the UK negatively impacted her mood, making her feel unmotivated and lazy during rainy days.
In Dubai, Elbi highlighted the uplifting effect of the constant sunshine on her mood and her sense of safety due to the lower crime rate compared to the UK. Encouraged by her previous work experience in Saudi Arabia, Elbi embraced the opportunity for a lifestyle shift in Dubai, where she secured a full-time job at a fitness center with the financial support of her parents.
Despite the initial challenges, Elbi has adapted well to life in Dubai, known for its hot climate and upscale nightlife, although she misses the pub culture of the UK. She mentioned the high costs of living in Dubai, with basic items like yogurt and coffee being considerably more expensive than in the UK.
While Elbi appreciates the vibrant and active lifestyle in Dubai, she acknowledged the difficulties in building relationships in such a competitive environment. She also noted the lack of a strong sense of community for young people, making it challenging to meet potential partners outside of dating apps.
Despite the luxuries and cleanliness of Dubai, Elbi expressed a longing for the community spirit and pubs that are prevalent in the UK. She emphasized the need to work hard to afford the high expenses in Dubai, where a substantial income is required to maintain a comfortable lifestyle.
Elbi has no immediate plans to return to the UK but acknowledged the importance of building connections in a foreign land. She highlighted the contrast in cleanliness between Dubai and the UK, along with her leisure activities such as shopping in air-conditioned malls and enjoying the city’s extravagant cinemas.
Overall, Elbi’s experience in Dubai has been positive, despite the challenges, and she expressed a willingness to build a life there while acknowledging the potential future decision to return to the UK if certain personal goals are not met.
