“Canadian Citizen Found Safe in Nepal-China Floods”

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has confirmed the discovery of one of the 30 Canadian citizens and permanent residents who were reported missing following the devastating floods in the Nepal-China border region. The individual had been out of reach due to communication disruptions but managed to make contact on Tuesday.

The flash floods occurred a week ago when a glacier collapsed in the Himalayan border area between Nepal and China. The aftermath of the disaster has resulted in a significant loss of life, with over 1,100 fatalities and more than 3,900 individuals still unaccounted for. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry has stated that approximately 590 foreign nationals from 39 different countries are also among those missing.

In response to the crisis, Canada is mobilizing support by dispatching over 18,000 emergency supplies from Canadian Red Cross reserves to the affected region. This aid effort is in addition to the $5 million humanitarian assistance already committed by the Canadian government.
