“Disqualified Giant Pumpkin Stuns Crowd at Port Elgin Pumpkinfest”

A giant pumpkin weighing 1,711 pounds grown by Jeff Warner from Englehart, Ontario, made its way to the Port Elgin Pumpkinfest with hopes of winning a top prize. However, Warner was disqualified from the weigh-off due to a small soft spot found on the pumpkin, which violated the competition rules.

Despite knowing about the strict entry conditions, Warner decided to participate in the event after a nine-hour drive, even though he was aware of the risk of disqualification. He attempted to address the soft spot by scraping it, but the hole continued to grow during the journey.

Upon reaching the festival, a judge informed Warner that the hole was too large for the pumpkin to qualify, as it needed to be no more than three inches wide. The winning pumpkin weighed 1,542 pounds, significantly lighter than Warner’s giant pumpkin.

While Warner’s pumpkin did not secure the top prize, he expressed no regrets about the effort he put into growing it. Visitors have been stopping by to see and take pictures with his impressive pumpkin, which will later be fed to the polar bears in a habitat located a couple of hours north of his farm.
