“France Leads Global Support for Palestinian Statehood”

World leaders and diplomats from various countries applauded President Emmanuel Macron’s address at a high-level meeting where he declared France’s recognition of Palestinian statehood. Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Macron emphasized the need to release hostages held by Hamas, end conflicts, and work towards a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

Macron stressed the importance of achieving peace and pledged France’s commitment to recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state, contingent on the release of Israeli hostages by Hamas. He also indicated that France and its European allies would link their support for Israel to its efforts to achieve peace and halt hostilities.

In a separate development, the UK, Canada, and Australia joined over 140 nations in acknowledging Palestinian statehood to maintain the possibility of a two-state solution and enhance security. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the move, warning against establishing a Palestinian state and vowing a response upon his return from the US.

Amid concerns about potential Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which could impede the formation of a Palestinian state, efforts were made to discourage such actions. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reiterated the stance against annexation, emphasizing the importance of preserving the two-state solution.

The ongoing diplomatic tensions and responses to the recognition of Palestinian statehood highlight the complex political landscape in the Middle East.
