Miyu Yamashita triumphed in her inaugural visit to Canada by securing a victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton. The 25-year-old Japanese golfer clinched her fourth LPGA Tour win and second for the year with an impressive display at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Shooting a remarkable 4-under-par 66 in the final round on Sunday, Yamashita concluded the $2.75-million US tournament at 23 under par.
Maintaining a commanding six-stroke lead after three rounds, Yamashita finished nine strokes ahead of her compatriot Yuri Yoshida, who finished at 14 under. Expressing her joy at winning in Canada, Yamashita thanked the supporters who came out to watch her play and enjoyed her time on the course during the week.
Standing at four-foot-11, Yamashita previously clinched victories at the Meijer LPGA Classic in June in Michigan, the Women’s British Open, and the Maybank Championship in 2025, earning her the title of rookie of the year. Notably, Yamashita became the fastest Japanese golfer to secure four LPGA wins, and her four-day score of 257 in Edmonton equaled the lowest all-time recorded on the LPGA Tour.
In another notable performance, Vancouver’s Anna Huang finished as the top Canadian in a tie for fourth place, posting a 5-under 65 to reach 12 under par. Meanwhile, Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, who finished tied for seventh at 11 under, claimed the low amateur title for the second consecutive year. Brooke Henderson, a two-time winner from Smiths Falls, Ont., ended in a tie for 13th after carding an even-par 70 in the final round.
Reflecting on the competition, Henderson praised the strong showing of Canadian players in the tournament, expressing optimism for the future of golf in the country. Additionally, 17-year-old Huang, who secured her fourth European Tour win in early August, expressed her delight at playing in front of home crowds and gaining valuable experience during the event.
The top-10 finishes for both Huang and Deng have secured their entry into the upcoming LPGA’s FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass. World No. 1 Nelly Korda of the United States concluded the tournament at 1 under par, while Michelle Xing and other Canadian players delivered notable performances throughout the event.
Looking ahead, the 2027 CPKC Women’s Open is set to take place at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec, promising another exciting edition of women’s golf competition.
