Paige Bueckers showcased a remarkable second-half performance, scoring all 22 of her points to lead the Dallas Wings to a 94-88 victory over the struggling Toronto Tempo on Wednesday. The win marked the Tempo’s 10th consecutive loss.
Bueckers, who struggled in the first half by missing all seven of her shots, bounced back in the third quarter, going 4 of 4 from the field and free-throw line to contribute 13 crucial points. Arike Ogunbowale also shined for the Wings, scoring 21 points and achieving season highs in free throws and attempts, making 13 of 14. Alanna Smith added 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Awak Kuier chipped in with 14 points.
Dallas had to play without key players Jessica Shepard and Azzi Fudd. Shepard sustained an ankle injury in the previous game, while Fudd has been sidelined for three games due to a knee injury.
Marina Mabrey led the charge for the Tempo with 23 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter when the team cut an 18-point deficit to just three. However, Bueckers’ stellar performance, including eight assists and three steals, proved crucial for the Wings. She sealed the victory with a breakaway layup and a timely jumper to maintain a six-point lead.
Bueckers excelled in the second half, shooting 7 of 11 from the field and converting all seven of her free throws. Laura Juskaite contributed 18 points, and Kia Nurse added 16 for Toronto, who were missing starters Brittney Sykes and Julie Allemand.
