“PM Carney Presents $1 Trillion Investment Opportunities”

A diverse array of investment opportunities will be presented by Prime Minister Mark Carney at an upcoming investment summit in Toronto. These include projects like a floating LNG terminal on B.C.’s coast, a high-speed rail line connecting Edmonton and Calgary, and a pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific Ocean. The detailed 66-page “prospectus” obtained by CBC News outlines these opportunities, aiming to attract $1 trillion in investments during the event.

The summit, scheduled for September 14 and 15, is a collaborative effort between the prime minister, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board. It aims to bring together international investors and Canadian business leaders to explore potential partnerships amidst global trade disruptions and geopolitical uncertainties.

The investment projects span various sectors, including conventional and clean energy, mining, marine infrastructure, power utilities, digital technology, advanced manufacturing, and transportation. Notable projects include a major expansion of the Port of Churchill, a significant investment in Nova Scotia’s Wind West offshore wind project, and the construction of the West Coast oil pipeline to transport oil from Alberta to B.C.

While some projects are in advanced stages, others are still in the planning phase. For instance, the Ksi Lisims LNG terminal project is described as “fully permitted and shovel ready,” while a graphite project in Saskatchewan is undergoing preliminary economic and environmental assessments.

The prospectus also highlights plans for a high-speed passenger rail line between Calgary and Edmonton, a long oil pipeline connecting Alberta to a deepwater terminal in British Columbia, and initiatives in natural gas and clean energy sectors. Additionally, Canada’s advancements in artificial intelligence, including a national strategy dating back to 2017, present investment opportunities in sectors like data centers and quantum computing technology.

The investment summit aims to showcase Canada as an attractive destination for diverse investments, promoting economic growth and partnerships beyond the country’s traditional economic ties.
