“Storm Alerts: Flood Warnings Across UK, 60mph Gales Expected”

Dozens of flood warnings and alerts have been issued today as thunderstorms, accompanied by 60mph gales, are expected. The majority of flood warnings are concentrated in the Southwest of England, where meteorologists from Netweather have issued a thunderstorm alert. The heaviest storms are anticipated this morning in Ceredigion, west Wales, and parts of south Wales.

According to the Met Office, bands of showers will persist mainly across south Wales and southwest England, some of which may be heavy with occasional thunder. The ground in these areas is already saturated, making heavy downpours unwelcome and likely to cause travel difficulties and localized surface water problems.

In Wales, there are six flood warnings and 26 less severe flood alerts. Additionally, Scotland has eight active flood warnings, as reported by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

By this afternoon, stormy weather is expected as far north as Lancashire, with a low-pressure system gradually moving northeast. Downpours will affect Lancashire and Greater Manchester later in the day, followed by drizzle spreading eastwards over Yorkshire.

Netweather has issued a storm alert predicting hail, gusty winds, and torrential rain throughout the day. The alert also mentions the possibility of isolated tornadoes in coastal areas of southern England due to strong weather conditions.

While temperatures are forecasted to stay mild, windy conditions are expected, with gale speeds potentially reaching 60mph in parts of Devon and south Wales this morning. Windy conditions are also anticipated during the early part of next week.
